my two homes, 2018-2019

This class built students’ understanding of their cultural backgrounds and ethnicities as well as their transition from their countries of origin to the United States. Based on an understanding on these themes, students explored ways to communicate these ideas through a variety of mediums, such as performance and art making.

Students were guided through a series of art projects that enabled them to bridge traditional art forms of their native homes with those of indigenous American cultures, lessening the distance between their diasporas. Projects built on themes of memory, family, culture and place encouraged students to reflect on the experiences of their transformative journeys.
